Chesapeake Rigging and Charleston Spars declared the mast a total loss and recommended replacement. BoatU.S. has approved the full replacement. Settlement is estimated at $10,394.55. There will be an additonal 4 week lead time for the mast section to be manufactured and delivered.

Original mast section is a Isomat spar with a base measured at 7-1/16 x 4-7/8". The specified replacement is a Charleston Spar
1330 mast section and measures 7-1/16" x 4-3/4".

The following photos were added 9/29/07:

The FRP surround will still interfere with the removal of the nuts. The partner is not centered in the FRP. The previous two photos show how it is offset to stbd.

Update: 12-19-2007:
All I want for Christmas is a Charleston Spar, a Charleston Spar, a Charleston Spar.....
The new mast is installed! The new Charlston spar section is not the same as the original Isomat section. The most noticable difference is the lack of a spinnaker car track on the leading edge and the T-shaped slot on the trailing face is much narrower than the Isomat. This caused a significant amount of additional time to drill & tap new holes for transferring the Harken Batcar track. This was because the track inserts did not fit the new slot.

When the temperature rises to the 50's, I'll pour the SparTite wedge replacement system. Prior to the failure both the iner diamond shrouds and the side shrouds were routed through the spreader tips. The new side shrouds do not.

I took advantage of the opportunity and replaced the ST-50 wind transducer, main halyard, and installed a new Glomex FM/TV antenna in place of the aging LORAN whip. The crimped fittings on the shrouds were replaced with STA-LOC mechanical fittings.
